By placing two-way mirror windows around the complex, the owners can enjoy the luxury of a large mansion without feeling like their home became an eyesore on the landscape.

The Keret House

At only 4.99 feet at its widest point, the Keret House is a bit of a tight squeeze. This is easily one of the most exotic houses on the list, even though it’s technically labeled as an art installation. The structure does not meet local building codes, but it does have all the amenities of a regular home, like a bathroom, bedroom, electricity, and water.
The Safe House

Worried about the zombie hordes? -- Or maybe just your average home invader? This two-level concrete fortress was designed by KWK Promes Architects in Warsaw, Poland. The home, which has glass windows lining the exterior, becomes completely closed off from the outside world when needed. This home has concrete sides with steel panels that open and close, a 20-foot metal roll-down gate, and a drawbridge. The entire property is surrounded by a security gate, easily making it one of the best homes for surviving the apocalypse.
Naturhus (Nature House)

In 1976, Swedish architect Bengt Warne designed a new type of home that’s built entirely inside of a greenhouse. This amazing home design creates a private and self-sustained garden space that keeps you warm during the colder months. The greenhouse exterior helps the owners cut their energy bill costs a whopping 50% by using innovative technology called a “hot water masonry heater.”
The Mushroom House

In the town of Pittsford, New York, pod-like structures loom above the bushes. The Mushroom House consists of four pods that weigh a massive 80 tons. The pods are anywhere between 14 and 20 feet high, and are held up by reinforced concrete stems. The 4,168-square-foot home contains three bedrooms and three bathrooms, making this one of most amazing homes around.
The Beer Can House

In 1968, a retired upholsterer named John Milkovisch figured that since he enjoyed drinking beer, the empty cans were the best way he could redo the exterior of his home. With the help of friends and neighbors, Milkovisch created one of the most unusual homes around, covering his Houston residence with over 50,000 cans of beer. If you’re looking for a way to spend your next weekend trip, the Beer Can House is open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 5 PM. This home really shows how one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Casa do Penedo

In the mountains of Portugal stands a large rock formation with a unique twist. Construction began on this home, which is described as a modern-day Flintstones House, in 1972. It was completed two years later. Unfortunately, its incredible uniqueness has caught the peering eyes of tourists, causing the last known owner of the home to move out. Before that, the owner installed bulletproof glass windows because of vandalism occurring on the premises.
The Bubble Palace

The Futuro House

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Finnish architect Matti Suuronen created what was then considered one of the coolest house models on the market: The Futuro House. He created the flying saucer-shaped home as a display of confidence in the technological advancement of the time period. To this day, several Futuro Houses are still standing all over the world. There are Futuro Houses in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Greenwich Township, New Jersey, for example.
