Christopher Peacock Creates Masculine Kitchen for Kips Bay NYC 2019

There’s something about a great kitchen that instantly transports you back to the home you grew up in. Even though the appliances are all high-tech now, and you need tons more room to stash your cooking gadgets and gizmos, kitchens can remind you of the family dinners and holiday parties of your youth.

Kitchen designer Christopher Peacock wanted to bring all of those memories and more out through his luxurious space at the 2019 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York City. The Connecticut-based designer overhauled a dated space to create magic for this year’s showcase, his seventh time at the annual charity event in a span of 20 years.

“The kitchen is not a large space, and it had very low ceilings,” Peacock explained. “There was a bad 70s kitchen in here when I first saw the space, so we had quite a challenge on our hands to get it together.”

Looking around the room now, one would never imagine the kitchen began as a relic from decades past– but the modern space does honor the historical nature of the Upper East Side Manhattan townhouse.

“I kept it quite simple, I think it’s really elegant,” he added. “I wanted a handsome, sort of masculine feel to it, and not a pretty kitchen. Very clean and sort of transitional in its feel.”

The kitchen space is tied together through strikingly dark, brass-accented cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, including a state of the art Kohler sink.

“The cabinetry has a hand-painted finish on it, so we’ve used this fabulous Benjamin Moore Ashwood Moss green, which I really like. Against that, we’ve put some hardware that is brushed brass. It’s my own design of hardware, and I designed it for the show, so it’s a new collection for us.”
