We get it. When you think of a kitchen sink, the words “phenomenal,” “trendy” or even “sexy” don’t come to mind. But Elkay brings all this and more to the kitchen sink industry.
Our good friend and renowned interior designer Christopher Grubb sat down on House Tipster’s behalf and chatted with Derek Voigt, Director of Project Management at Elkay during the 2018 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Orlando. Naturally, we were eager to learn more about the inspiration behind the “phenomenal sinks” they’ve been bringing to the table for close to 100 years.
Are you in the market for a new, upgraded kitchen sink? Here are a few reasons to consider Elkay’s extensive sink collection as well as their other consumer-focused products.
Family is at the core of Elkay. After all, it was and still is a family-owned and operated company dedicated to designing and manufacturing right here in the United States and at two satellite plants in China and Mexico.
For a company that’s been around for close to a century, Elkay is dedicated to staying on-trend and relevant in today’s ever-changing interior design landscape. It’s this focus on meeting customer demand that elevated Elkay to the number one seller of stainless steel sinks in the United States.
While Elkay is best known for their kitchen sinks, their product line is remarkably robust. In fact, Elkay offers everything from drinking fountains and water coolers to faucets and even cabinetry.
“We have a broad offering covering the whole gamut of materials,” Derek explained. These materials are meant to assist both homeowners and designers styling everything from contemporary to traditional and transitional spaces.
So whether you’re looking for a brass utility faucet or steel soap dispenser nozzle, Elkay has a product to match your specific design needs.
Since Elkay is setting the trends for kitchen sinks across the United States and abroad, we wanted to get a better understanding of current homeowner demands.
The most significant trend in the kitchen sink market right now is the Farmhouse sink. Per Derek, “Farmhouse sinks have been a big trend in the marketplace.” A great feature of the farmhouse sink is its versatility. “It gives the home a very classic look across multiple aesthetics,” he explained.
And, of course, stainless steel is still “king” for kitchen sinks—even farmhouse sinks! “Stainless for sinks is still a statement,” Christopher and Derek agreed.
Sure, a simple, traditional farmhouse sink looks great in almost any kitchen environment, but how does a homeowner make the sink stand out?
According to Derek, it’s all about the sink apron. “We offer a new interchangeable apron-front sink.” Once you choose from Elkay’s vast selection of farmhouse sinks, you can further customize with an apron. Currently, there are three stainless steel apron options available in Powder-Coated Blue, Smoked Charcoal Black, and Rose Gold. Also, Elkay is offering a fireclay apron in White and an additional quartz material later in 2018.
Speaking of Powder-Coated blue, Derek mentioned that blue is a great statement color for kitchens in 2018. Keep it on your radar!
There you have it. Stainless steel, farmhouse sinks with a blue apron is about as trendy as you can get for your kitchen sink. Now, it’s time to get shopping!
We want to extend a special “thank you” to Derek Voigt and Christopher Grubb for their time and trade expertise.
