Wow! We’re still processing all the exciting products, stimulating conversations, and mind-blowing trends we just experienced at the Summer 2018 Las Vegas Market Expo.
What a week!
This biannual event, a favorite of industry insiders like buyers, manufacturers, designers, and architects, features a myriad of new furniture, decor, and gift products for homes and commercial properties in virtually every design category.
The expo showroom, World Market Center, covers over 5 million square feet of showroom space (the largest home and hospitality furnishings space of its kind in the world!), and houses over 4,000 vendors. It’s gigantic!
As in seasons past, our entire House Tipster media team was blown away by what we saw. We witnessed some great new products in many key categories like wall decor, rugs, and living room furniture, and we spoke with some of the industry’s most prominent brand representatives and designers. We even met a handful of industry celebrities.
Thanks to our fearless host, prominent interior and product designer, trendsetter, and industry influencer, Christopher Grubb, House Tipster secured fabulous interviews with the likes of Kathy Ireland, Christopher Guy Harrison, Patti Carpenter, and Camerone Parker McCullouch. From these interviews and more, we learned about current market trends and what to look for in the coming season.
Here’s a recap of what we learned.
Green: The Star of the Show
It was evident the minute we entered the World Market Center: green is on fire.
We saw it everywhere, from upholstery to paint. And, our observation was validated by Patti Carpenter, a Global Trend Ambassador who just so happens to be on the team that determines Pantone’s annual “color of the year.”
As a gender-neutral color, green can easily be applied to almost any environment. It’s always been a popular hue, but at Market, we noticed that the greens had a touch of blue in them, especially with regard to turquoise.
In the coming seasons, be on the lookout for more greens, especially in shades such as emerald and mint.
Past Markets, “it’s been gold, gold, gold,” Christopher Grubb noted. But at the Summer Market, silver was on full display.
It was especially prominent in light fixtures and furniture.
But before you start swapping out your new, burnished gold fixtures for silver, hold on. Christopher noted that all these silver accents pair remarkably well with gold, so don’t be afraid to mix and match.
You’ll be seeing a lot of this combo in Markets to come.
Wood Grains are “In”
Wood is a very regional feature, but this Market, we’ve noticed a lot of natural, exposed grain in all the maple, oak, and other wood products.
Lighter finishes that appear more sophisticated and show the grain, rather than distressed are appearing everywhere. These clear coats and light stains produce a simple, contemporary feel.
Next Up: Technology
One last trend of note from the Summer Market deals with one of our favorite topics here at House Tipster: technology. Companies looking to appeal to millennial shoppers and keep up with the times, such as Zuo Modern, are rapidly looking for ways to incorporate technology into their marketing and sales.
We loved the influx of young, hip 3D and virtual technologies, and are looking forward to seeing more of this in the years to come.
